BAFTA winning and Olivier and Golden Globe nominated actor James McAvoy (The Last King of Scotland, Atonement, X-Men) will star in Macbeth, Jamie Lloyd's (Donmar's Passion, Broadway's Cyrano de Bergerac, the Old Vic's The Duchess of Malfi, Royal Court's The Pride) inaugural production in a season of work for Trafalgar Transformed. Running from 9 February until 27 April 2013, Macbeth is the first production in the reconfigured auditorium of Trafalgar Studios.
Design for Jamie Lloyd's season is by Soutra Gilmour, who has just won the 2012 Evening Standard award for Best Design for Inadmissible Evidence at the Donmar Warehouse, directed by Lloyd.
Shakespeare's darkest tale plays out in a dystopian Scotland brutalised by war. Under a toxic fog, Macbeth begins his tormented struggle for power fuelled by ambition and paranoia.

Following the success of our platform discussion in March we hope you can join us for a lively and stimulating discussion on the Independence of Scotland with a colourful and inspiring panel including actor Martin Compston, writer and radio and television presenter Hardeep Singh Kohli and journalist Fiona Mountford, with an introduction from Macbeth director Jamie Lloyd.

Scottish Play Readings
On the set of The Scottish Play in Trafalgar Studios 1, we present readings of three of the great modern scottish plays.
Directed by Edward Stambollouian (Associate Director of Macbeth) and starring some of Scotland's finest acting talent.
KNIVES IN HENS

In a pre-industrial landscape, an unsettling and threatening love triangle emerges between the young woman, the ploughman and the hated miller. KNIVES IN HENS, a remarkable play about the transformative power of knowledge and an emerging consciousness as the world moves from rural to the urban and industrial.

First staged at the Traverse Theatre in 1995, KNIVES IN HENS was playwright David Harrower's first professionally produced work. It has since been staged in 25 countries around the world and, widely acknowledged as a modern Scottish classic.

With them on the island are Kirk, the authoritarian leaseholder, and his niece Ellen, a young woman in love with the stars of silent comedy. Left alone on a scrap of land surrounded by the vast Atlantic, they obesrve reach other.
Poetic, intense and gripping, OUTLYING ISLANDS is a glimpse of an innocence, a way of seeing and a way of being young that is about to be destroyed forever. First premiered at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in 2002.

All tickets will be £15 on Mondays. Half of these will be made available through a special outreach scheme, targeted towards schools and first-time theatregoers. The other half will be released to the public on the first day of each month, starting on the 1 February 2013, and will be available online or at Trafalgar Studios box office.
Note: Tickets will now only be available via the web or direct from the box office in person. Customers will not be able to purchase tickets over the phone. Limited to 2 per customer.
